Ukraine’s MFA: CIS has become puppet institution

The countries of the Commonwealth are unable to adequately react to Russia’s aggression.

Ukraine may quit the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) no earlier than in a year after the start of the respective procedure and notifying the CIS’ executive committee. This came from the director of the information policies department of Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Evgen Perebiynis at a press-conference, RBC-Ukraine reports.

“The CIS has turned into a puppet institution unable to adequately react to Kremlin’s aggression. After taking the decision to quit the Commonwealth the MFA will respectively notify the CIS’ executive committee. According to the CIS foundation agreement, the membership in the Commonwealth spots in a year of the notification of the executive committee”, - Perebiynis claimed.

At the same time he pointed out that Ukraine is ready to keep developing partnership relations with all the countries, including CIS members.

We would note that yesterday, 19 March 2014, Ukraine took the decision to stop its CIS chairmanship.
