Parents of Minsk schoolchildren ask to close Russian border due to “spice”

A great deal of illegal drugs and psychotropic substances comes to Belarus from Russia.

Seven young people died lately after using the so called spice, Radio Svaboda reports.

At a teacher-parent meeting at gymnasium No. 23, parent Yury Belenki proposed to sign an appeal to members of the house of representatives.

“The number of children and teenagers dying or having health problems due to using synthetic drugs is growing in Belarus,” the appeal says. “It is commonly known that these drugs get to Belarus mainly from the Russian Federation, with which Belarus doesn't have border and customs controls.

We urge you to urgently adopt legislative acts aimed at establishing strict border and customs controls on the Belarusian-Russian border.”

Yury Belenki, who is the acting chairman of the Christian Concentrative Party BPF, says 20 people have already signed the appeal.

The Interior Ministry admits officially that Russia is the main supplier of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances to Belarus.
