Vital Rymasheuski: Authorities are afraid of ‘European Belarus’

The activists of the ‘European Belarus’ civic campaign have undergone the greatest repressions in the recent years.

Such an opinion came from a co-chairman of the organizational committee for creation of the party Belarusian Christian Democracy (BChD) Vital Rymasheuski to charter97.org.

“Firstly, I would like to point out that today there were at least twice as many people as last year and the year before last. This was the most large scale event since 2010. Obviously people were inspired by the events in Ukraine and Belarusian people react not in the way Aliaksandr Lukashenka would want. The mood was very festive, there were many youngsters. Also the collection of signatures has started today against pulling Belarus into a war. I believe it to be a marker event”, - the politician pointed out.

BChD’s chairman added that police behaved quite nervously.

“Roughly seven guy were detained with flags with a white Columns of Gediminas coat of arms on black background. Recently I have learnt that guys from the ‘European Belarus’ were detained. I believe that this is a planned action precisely against the ‘European Belarus’, because at past meetings its activists were also detained. The authorities are, of course, afraid of Andrei Sannikov’s influence even from exile as Lukashenka’s toughest opponent. We can see that different organizations are treated differently in our country, and it was exactly the ‘European Belarus’ that has undergone most repressive actions in the recent years”, - Vital Rymasheuski emphasized.

We would remind that the procession in the honor of the 96th anniversary of the proclamation of Belarusian People’s Republic in Minsk ended with mass detentions.
