Donald Tusk: Sanctions against Russia are test of EU’s political will

The next step should involve energy restrictions.

This was stated by Poland’s Prime Minister Donal Tusk at yesterday’s nuclear security summit and the meeting of the G7 heads of states in the Hague, PAP reports.

“First tangible results of sanctions for Russia are financial and stock market indicators, the fall of the rouble’s value, the quotations of largest companies at Russian stock exchange, the outflow of foreign capital and, probably the most important, - EU integration over an energy program”, - he pointed out.

Tusk added that the next step, which will be “very sensitive” to Russia, should be energy sanctions in the form of a European energy program.

“We are in a completely new situation, and solidarity between the countries of Europe faces an exceptionally difficult challenge. Different states have different levels of energy and political development on Russia. Sanctions against Russia are a test of how united Europe is politically, when certain state or national interests need to be at stake. Step by step Europe is passing this test”, - the head of the Polish government emphasized.
