Home of Barys Khamaida searched

The flat of the Vitebsk-based opposition member, who is serving a term in custody, was searched by the police.

Opposition activist Barys Khamaida was taken into custody for alleged resisting police officers. There's no information on what grounds the search was conducted, Radio Svaboda reports.

Neighbour of the activist say that Barys Khamaida was taken home in a police car. The search took only an hour. It's unknown what the policemen were looking for and if they seized anything from Khamaida's two-room flat.

The arrest of Khamaida may be a possible reason for the search. Activist Yan Salauyan and Khamaida were detained in the village of Ruba outside Vitebsk on March 24 ahead of the Freedom Day. One of the activists had a white-red-white flag.

Both Khamaida and Salauyan live alone, so it took some time to report about the incident to journalists. Their friends, who went to the detention facility to pass the activists parcels, learnt that both men had been detained for resisting police officers. Judge of the Chyhunachny district Alena Tsyhankova sentenced them to three days in custody. They will be released today at 20:15.
