Pavel Vinahradau goes on hunger strike in detention centre

Activist Pavel Vinahradau has been on hunger strike for the 18th day. He was sentenced to 25 days in a detention centre.

Aliaksandr Artsybashau was recently released after a 15-day detention. He was tried together with Pavel Vinahradau. The activist saw Vinahradau in the detention centre on March 23, the voting day of the local “election”, Radio Racyja learnt from Pavel Vinahradau's wife Sviatlana.

Aliaksandr Artsybashau says all “political” prisoners were placed in one cell so that they couldn't call to boycott the election.

According to Artsybashau, a doctor visits cells every day and asks how the inmates feel. Aliaksandr thinks Pavel Vinahradau receives enough medical attention during the hunger strike.

On March 14, Pavel Vinahradau was sentenced to 25 days in the detention facility for alleged disorderly conduct and resisting police officers. The case was heard by judge of the Maskouski district court Tatsiana Matyl. Pavel Vinahradau's motion to recuse the judge was dismissed.
