Anatol Liabedzka freed

A 15-day sentence for leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Liabedzka has expired on March 31.

About 20 people, among them Liabedzka's friends, party fellows and journalists, met the politician outside the detention centre in Akrestsin Street in Minsk. Liabedzka says the democratic forces should impose their action plan on the authorities, BelaPAN reports.

On March 17, the UCP leader was charged with disorderly conduct and violation of the rules of holding mass events. He was sentenced to 15 days in custody. According to Liabedzka, he participated in a permitted picket of Anton Zhalko, a UCP candidate for a seat in the local council. The candidate applied for the picket to the electoral commission of the Minsk city executive committee three days before the event.
