Raman Jakauleuski: It could have been Putin, who sent Lukashenka to meet Turchynov

One of the purposes of today’s meeting for the Belarusian ruler could have been intelligence.

This came from a political observer Raman Jakauleuski in his interview to Radio Svaboda.

“I am not sure that this is an independent move on the part of Lukashenka. I do not rule out that it was Putin, who sent him for intelligence. The purpose could be seen to check the pulse of today’s Kyiv before the possible Russia’s intervention. Many sources, including the American intelligence, say that the intervention is not ruled out. For example, Marchuk, former Ukrainian Prime Minister, former Defense Minister, first head of Ukraine’s Security Service. He said that there are all the intelligence data, saying that Russia may intervene in Ukraine very shortly”.

Raman Jakauleuski does not believe that Lukashenka could be a peacemaker intermediary between Moscow and Kyiv.

“In my opinion in order to become a true peacemaker, trust is absolutely needed to such a person from all the parties involved. In this case, this is not only Moscow and Kyiv, but also the West. What kind of trust to the head of the Belarusian state can we speak of in the West?

Honestly, I am afraid for something bad might happen. Look, Lukashenka stated his position on Crimea during the municipal elections in Belarus. What happened next? Kyiv withdrew their ambassador for consultations. Lukashenka gives an interview to Shuster. Belarus supported Russian in the UN vote, while Kazakhstan, for example, abstained. What comes next – Ukraine’s MFA expressed regret over such a position of official Minsk. Now, I am trying to guess what happens next after today’s meeting”, - Raman Jakauleuski said.
