Shushkevich about Churkin: “It's ignorance and anger”

Russian Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin called the first head of Belarus an “ideologist of Ukrainian nationalists”.

Churkin mixed up the names “Shukhevych” and “Shushkevich” at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Radio Svaboda reports.

According to the Russian Representative to the UN, the “outrage” in western and central Ukraine was inspired by supporters of “Bandera and Shushkevich”, who struggled under Hitler flags “against the Soviet Union and the anti-Hitler coalition” in the World War II.

“They are their ideologists,” Churkin said.

The first head of independent Belarus, Stanislau Shushkevich, learnt about the incident from journalists.

“Are you serious? That's wonderful! I think it demonstrates his, so to say, 'education' and anger. I cannot comment on it.

I'd like to know why Yanukovych is being so unwise. He could have declared an early parliamentary election and remained the president. It's clear that he faced enormous pressure to allow this situation and allow the Russian intervention. I can only guess what's going on. He couldn't have been so stupid. He saw everything was crashing. It is a Russian scenario that is being implemented with some failures. I hope to see forces that could stop this barbarous intervention.

Belarus cannot face anything good. Belarus has a dictator who threatens Russia. He will disappear as soon as Russia stops supporting him. With all our stupidity, which we show the entire world, the regime cannot exist without support. It's a fairy kingdom. It's only due to Russia that our dictator remains in power,” Stanislau Shushkevich said.
