Turchynov: Only Parliament can ask for foreign intervention

It is only the Ukrainian parliament that can make a decision on asking for the intervention of foreign troops.

This is what the speaker Oleksandr Turchynov announced today at a plenary session, lb.ua reports.

As he commented on Russian Federation UN representative’s information, who said that it was Yanukovych, who asked for the intervention of Russian troops, Turchynov stated that according to Ukrainian legislation and the Constitution, it is the Supreme Council that makes the decision on the presence of foreign military contingent.

“This is parliament’s exclusive jurisdiction. No provocation may unfold by an appeal of any citizens, even a former president”, - he added.

We would remind that earlier Turchynov said that Ukraine Prosecutor General’s office had already started an investigation as to mass murders in Ukraine, one of key suspects in which is Ukraine’s ex-president Viktor Yanukovych.
