EU ready to give €11bn to Ukraine

The money will be provided from the EU budget and European financial institutions.

President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso said Brussels was ready to offer a €11bn aid package over the nearest years, Interfax-Ukraine reports on March 5.

“Today, the European Commission has identified a package of support to Ukraine. […] The package combined could bring an overall support of at least 11 billion euros over the next couple of years,” he told a press conference following a meeting of the European Commission in Brussels.

The aid will be provided from the budget of the European Union and European financial institutions, according to Barroso.

According to earlier reports, the US announced an aid package of 1 billion dollars for Ukraine. US Secretary of State John Kerry said the US would also help Ukraine with recovering stolen assets.
