The Olympics in Sochi have already shown what sport is in the hands of dictators.
A member of the European Parliament for Poland, a member of the faction of conservative and reformers Marek Migalski since 2011 has been putting effort into depriving the Lukashenka regime of the right to host an Ice Hockey World Championship
Now as Ukraine is on the threshold of a war, and there are Russian troops in the Crimea, the issue of cancelling the IIHF World Championship in Minsk should be once again reconsidered.
In his statement Marek Migalski decidedly demands to cancel all international competitions in Belarus:
“Today, as Ukraine is on the threshold of a war, and Vladimir Putin sends troops to the Crimea, the issue of cancelling the IIHF World Championship in Minsk should be once again reconsidered.
Aliaksandr Lukashenka, notorious as Europe’s last dictator, already confirmed that he will stay in close contact with Vladimir Putin on the case of Ukraine’s crisis. The cancellation of the World Championship would be a sign of solidarity with the people of Belarus and Ukraine and also a clear signal to Vladimir Putin and Aliaksandr Lukashenka, who are ready to do anything for the sake of saving their regimes and intend to destroy freedom in neighboring Ukraine”.
