The Verkhovna Rada of Crimea has decided the autonomous republic should Russia before the “referendum”.

It is said in the document cited by Crimean MP Sergei Shuvainikov, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the document, the decision was taken to “become part of the Russian Federation with the rights of a subject of the Russian Federation. The Crimean parliament also voted to send a request to Russian president Valdimir Putin and the Federal Assembly on joining Russia.

“The Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea addressed the president of Russia and the Federal Assembly asking to start a procedure of [Crimea's] joining the Russian Federation with the rights of a subject of Russia,” the resolution says. It takes effect on the date of the adoption.

Rustam Temirgaliyev, the first deputy prime minster of Crimea, said earlier the referendum on Crimea's status was brought forward to March 16. He said people would vote on two questions.

“The first one: Are you in favour of reuniting Crimea with Russia as a subject of the Russian Federation? The second one: Are you in favour of restoring the Constitution of Crimea of 1992?” the deputy PM said.

Under Ukrainian laws, local referendums and seceding from the state are illegal.
