Russian saboteur arrives in Ukraine from Belarus to organise acts of terrorism

A Russian citizen, who was detained near Chernihiv, arrived in Ukraine to organise sabotage acts in southern regions of the country.

The press release of the Ukrainian Security Service says:

“Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine and Ukrainian border guards detained a citizen of the Russian Federation 'Ch' in the Chernihiv region, who was trying to enter Ukraine and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea on a train from Polatsk to Simferopol to perform sabotage acts.”

The detained person was searched. Five mobile phones, 23 SIM cards, 17 flares, 5 flare launchers, 2 military cards of the Russian Armed Forces, 3 cameras, 11 memory cards for the cameras and a call sign sheet were found.

A telephone number of an officer of the Russian Federal Security Service, the saboteur's direct coordinator, was found in his notebook.

“The detained man admitted during the questioning he was to perform tasks in the interests of the Russian special services to destabilise the situation in southern Ukraine, in particular terrorising local residents,” the Security Service's press service noted.

The Ukrainian Security Service earlier uncovered an espionage ring of the military intelligence of the Russian Federation in the Kherson region that was preparing actions aimed at undermining the defence capabilities of Ukraine.

The Security Service also prevented an operation of the Russian intelligence aimed at stealing state papers from administration buildings of Ukraine's eastern regions.

On April 9, the Security Service detained a Russian citizen suspected of shooting near the near the Mykolaiv regional administration. On April 7, a resident of the Kherson region, who planned to capture the Kakhovska hydroelectric power station, was detained.
