Ukraine prepares lawsuit against ‘Gazprom’

Ukraine’s government is preparing a lawsuit against ‘Gazprom’ to be submitted to Stockholm court of arbitration on the issue of gas contracts.

The news came from the Minister of Energetics and Coal Industry Yury Prodan as he spoke at Verkhovna Rada, lb.ua reports.

“When is the government going to appeal to the court of arbitration on the issue of cancelling the contract between ‘Gazprom’ and ‘Ukraine’s Naftafaz’? This work has been going on since the first day of my taking the position. Today we are thoroughly approaching the preparation of relevant documents and reconsideration of the unfavourable conditions that are now present in the agreement between ‘Naftagaz’ and ‘Gazprom’”, - he told the parliament members.

Prodan has once again claimed that the price of $485.5 per thousand cubic meters of gas is political.

In the first quarter Ukraine used to buy gas at $268.5. However, due to the change of power in Ukraine, Russia first deprived ‘Naftagaz’ of the discount that Viktor Yanukovych agreed upon in December 2013, and then the discount provided in “gas agreements”.

As a result the price has grown up to $485.5. Ukraine is not going to purchase has expensive fuel.
