Belarusians in Ukraine called to support pro-European choice

The Belarusian Committee for Solidarity with Ukraine calls on the Belarusians to support the pro-European choice.

“Supporting the pro-European choice of the people of Ukraine, you support the future of Belarus!” reads the appeal of the Belarusian Committee for Solidarity with Ukraine.

“Remember that only the new Ukrainian authorities can and will guarantee the preservation of the national identity and historical roots of the ethnic minorities, among them the third largest minority of the Belarusians living in Ukraine,” the authors say.

The committee's representatives note Ukraine “has freed itself from the burden of three empires and survived due to its unique form of identity”.

“There were preparations to seize the Ukrainian territory with the help of Yanukovych, who drove the country to unprecedented corruption, lawlessness and embezzlement, but the Maidan protests opened the eyes of the Ukrainians. Russia's pro-imperial groups continue their attempts to preserve its influence and rule the Ukrainians by destabilising the situation in Ukraine's southeast regions, supporting the demands of federalisation of the country and disrupting the presidential election,” the appeal says.

At the crucial moment of their today's history, the people of Ukraine “showed the whole world that they want to rule their state leading it to a democratic future. There are only two ways: back to the new pro-Russian ghetto, or to the European space, 'to be called human',” BelaPAN reports.

The authors of the appeal urge the Belarusians living in Ukraine to be honest to themselves and answer the question who they support: “the honest and heroic people of Ukraine or the criminal corrupted gang that clings to power in Ukraine by betraying the state's national interests”.

“The Belarusians of Ukraine, we believe that your choice will be based on the historical memory of the Belarusian nation and will become the choice of your pride and honour,” the appeal underlines.

The Belarusian Committee for Solidarity with Ukraine was founded in March 2014. Its members are tens of people, including famous politicians and public figures Pavel Seviarynets, Aliaksei Marachkin, Aliaksei Yanukevich, Zmitser Dashkevich, Ihar Rynkevich, Hanna Shaputska and others.
