Mustafa Dzhemilev: Russia inclined to deport Crimean Tatars

There is a prevailing opinion in the Russia’s establishment that Crimean Tatars should be deported from the peninsula.

It has been stated by the member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Crimean Tatar leader on the sidelines of the parliament, UNN informs.

“I have information that the majority in Russian authorities, in the FSB circles, are on favour of deporting Crimean Tatars,” he said.

“But most likely it would happen in a different way, not like in 1944, when people with machine guns came, but we would be simply driven out. It is a mild variants, which took place after Crimea’s annexation by Russia in 1783. Then people were not deported in trains, but their land was seized, their most sacred feelings were scorned at, the intellectuals were killed, and others had to emigrate. Today there are ten times as many Crimean Tatars in Turkey than in Crimea,” the deputy noted.

We remind that 99% of Crimean Tatars have not taken part in the illegal “referendum” on joining Russia, held on the peninsula on March 16. There are about 200,000 Tatars in Crimea.
