Metropolitan Pavel wants believers to vote for Lukashenka

Lukashenka and his son visited the Minsk Holy Spirit Cathedral on Easter Day.

Nasha Niva writes about it.

“Your Excellency,” Metropolitan Pavel said to the dictator and didn't miss an opportunity to give a compliment. “I sometimes ask the believers if they know who Aliaksandr Lukashenka is. We know, they answer, he is our president. I always tell them that we should not only vote for him, but pray and ask God to give him wisdom, health and spiritual strength, so that our country can flourish in the future.”

Metropolitan Pavel (Georgiy Ponomaryov) was born on February 19, 1952, in Karaganda in a family of workers. He served in the Soviet Army after finishing secondary school. He worked as a driver and mechanic. He studied at vocational school and then at Moscow Theological Seminary. He worked at the Department for External Church Relations, was a member of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem and the abbot of the Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery. He is a Russian citizen.

He headed the Belarusian Orthodox Church at the end of last year.
