Barys Zhaliba: Lukashenka has no money to produce planes

This is how a PhD in economics professor Barys Zhaliba commented for the charter97.org web-site on Lukashenka’s order to set up the production of planes and helicopters in Belarus.

“To repair planes is one thing, but to produce, even more so military planes, it is totally different. We have a repairs shop set in the area of Kozyrava, which tried and may try again to start independently producing specifically passenger aircrafts. But to start independently producing military units is an impossible task. The license needs to be purchased for that as well as technologies, and only then something like that could be done. But Russia sells secret technologies to no one”, - the economist pointed out.

The expert added that this will also be impossible from the financial point of view.

“Belarus has no money for new production units and equipment. That is why all this is unreasonable and Lukashenka just, like he says himself, blurted something out. This is another utopia project. It is possible to do repairs. But even for the modernization of Su-27 fighter jets, for example, big money is needed”, - Barys Zhaliba emphasized.
