SBU broke up takeover of Melitopol public buildings

The Security Service of Ukraine has detained a saboteur who had planned to seize State government bodies in Melitopol.

It is informed by the press-service of the agency.

“In the framework of the anti-terrorist operation and prevention of subversive actions on the territory of Ukraine, on April 30 in the city of Melitopol, Zaporizhia region, the SBU detained a citizen of Ukraine, “D”, who is suspected of preparing mass rallies of protest with involvement of pro-Russian separatist groups,” the report reads.

On May 1 the saboteur planned to hold mass riots in central streets of Melitopol which would follow in seizure of administrative buildings of state government bodies.

At present, the SBU specified, a pretrial detention for him is being dealt with. Operative and investigative actions are carried out.

We remind that since April 6 Russian subversive groups and local separatists started set-piece seizures of government buildings in the cities of eastern Ukraine. Western journalists informed that there are Belarusians among gunmen as well.

In response the authorities of Ukraine launched an anti-terrorist operation in eastern regions of the country. Troops and military equipment was sent to Donbass. On April 24 the Ukrainian army started liberation of Slovyansk.

On April 29 separatist militiamen seized key administrative buildings of Luhansk, the eastern regional capital of Ukraine. The storming took place with the use of firearms. The regional administration, the prosecutor’s office, the SBU headquarters, the police head office and the TV and Radio centre of the city are under control of the rebels.
