NATO to send troops to Ukraine in case of Russia's attack

The Alliance should protect the independence of Ukraine.

President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman says NATO can use troops in Ukraine if Russia invades the country's eastern regions, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“If Russia decided to widen the territorial expansion to eastern Ukraine, it will be the end of fun. In this case I would suggest not only the strictest EU sanctions, but also NATO military readiness, for example sending NATO forces to the territory of Ukraine,” Zeman said in an interview with a Czech radio station.

It was decided earlier that the Alliance would relocate its forces. It was agreed after the first day of the two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels on April 2. It was agreed to strengthen the defence of NATO member states in the context of the Ukrainian crisis. The ministers also promised particular measures to defend Ukraine and increase cooperation with the country.

The participants of the meeting emphasised it was important for NATO that the Ukrainian army was “modern and effective”.
