Explosion near KGB building in Vitebsk was organised by motocross female champion

A former professional motocrosser was sentenced to 4.5 years of imprisonment for the explosion near the KGB building in Vitebsk that took place two years ago.

“The verdict was delivered in Vitebsk to the woman, who organised a blast near the KGB building in the regional centre. The professional sportswoman was convicted,” Interfax quotes ONT TV.

According to the TV channel, the convicted woman had won the Belarusian Motocross Championship several times. “At one time, she was the only female motocrosser. Her colleagues recalled at the trial she could perform 20 one arm chin-ups,” the TV channel says.

The woman was detained as a suspect in connection with the blast near the KGB building in Vitebsk before her departure to the European Motocross Championship. “She admitted her guilt in making and possessing explosives and confirmed her involvement in the blast,” ONT reports.

The woman was sentenced to 4.5 years in a minimum security correctional facility without confiscation of property.

An unidentified device exploded near the KGB building in Vitebsk at 19:00 on November 11, 2012.

The investigation and expert examinations allowed to identify the gender of the offender and showed the offender or her close relatives have a certain disease, a representative of the Investigation Committee explained. Investigators thoroughly examined all materials of the inquiries into offences in the Vitebsk region involving pyrotechnic devices.
