The Russian president thinks Gazprom should demand advance payments for gas supplies to Ukraine.
He made this statement on Wednesday, Interfax-Ukraine reports.Accorfing to him, Ukraine will receive gas in the amount that has been paid for one month in advance.
“Gazprom will deliver gas only in the amount that has been paid for by the Ukrainian party a month in advance,” Vladimir Putin said. “They'll receive as much as they've paid for.”
He also said to minister of industry Denis Manturov Russia should be ready to produce own goods to substitute the goods imported from Ukraine.
“I want you to strictly fulfill all obligations under the contracts with our Ukrainian partners, but we need to be ready to any developments, including the issue of substituting the imported goods,” Putin said. “We need to think now where, at what enterprises we can launch our production, how long it will take and how much it will cost.”
Gazprom CEO said on April 3 at a meeting with the Russian prime minister that the Russian government had cancelled the discount for customs duty on gas for Ukraine in connection with the denouncement of the agreements with Ukraine on the Russian Black Sea Fleet, in particular the Kharkiv Accords. It means the gas price should be increased $100 to $485 per 1,000 cubic metres. The Ukrainian government replied it didn't agree with the price.
