No telephone calls from political prisoner Alinevich for last 6 months

The authorities of correctional facility No. 10 in Navapolatsk refused to explain the ban on telephone calls for Ihar Alinevich.

Charter97.org learnt it from his mother Valiantsina Alinevich.

“We don't receive many letters from him. He doesn't call us at all. His last call was in October last year,” she said.

The mother of the political prisoner noted her husband spoke to the deputy chief of the correctional facility and tried to find out why Alinevich couldn't make calls, but the prison officer didn't explain.

“They never explain such things. The correctional facility doesn't have public pay phones, only a conventional phone. Inmates have to file an application to make a call. In addition to these technical obstacles, Ihar is under special control of prison officers,” Valiantsina Alinevich says.

On May 27, 2011, judge of the Zavadski district court Zhanna Khvainitskaya sentenced Ihar Alinevich to 8 years in a medium security correctional facility. He serves his term in correctional facility No. 10 in Navapolatsk, which is known for its strict confinement conditions. Mikalai Dziadok, Aliaksandr Frantskevich and Alinevich were accused of organising a procession near the Ministry of Defence, attacking the Shangri La casino and a detention centre, setting the doors of a Belarusbank office on fire.
