Putin’s 13 and Two Crimean companies under new EU sanctions

The European Union has extended sanctions against Russia.

13 more persons and 2 companies, previously nationalized by Moscow, have been blacklisted. It has been stated by a European diplomat on the sidelines of the meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of the EU countries, Deutsche Welle reports.

“13 more individual persons and 2 Crimea-based companies have been included in the supplement to the black list,” a source told to ITAS-TASS. “These restrictions are to come into force on Tuesday.”

He has not specified whether all blacklisted persons are Russian citizens, or representatives of the leadership of federalization supporters in south eastern Ukraine are among them.

“Their make-up of names is to be announced only after the list is published in the official magazine of the EU,” he stressed.

This decision has become a response of the EU to holding the illegal “referendum” in eastern Ukraine. The fundamental decision is that Brussels is not going to recognize its results, and is to announce the new sanctions against Russia after it, had been adopted back on Friday, on May 9 at the meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of 28 EU member countries.

So far the EU has imposed only “second stage” sanctions on Russia. They include travel bans to the EU territory for representatives of the Russian establishment, and a ban for carrying out financial operations in European banks. There have been 48 persons on the EU list until May 12, and notably it included not only Russians, but a number of separatists’ leaders in the south eastern Ukraine.
