Minsk resident detained for leaflets on political prisoners

Aleh Kerol has been taken to Minsk Piershamajski district’s police department.

The charter97.org web-site learnt the information from human rights activists.

Aleh Kerol was sticking leaflets with the information of the opposition activists, detained on the eve of the Ice Hockey World Championship. Near the National Library he was detained by police. The activist has been taken to Piershamajski district’s police department and left in custody before trial that will take place today.

There are nine political prisoners in Belarus, sentenced to long-term imprisonments, including a former candidate for president Mikalaj Statkievich and the vice-president of the International Human Rights Federation Ales Bialatski. Apart from that in the course of the recent two weeks police detained about 30 opposition activists. Human rights defenders ling the arrest to the Ice Hockey World Championship being held in Minsk.
