Donald Tusk: Europe should stop displaying hypocricy about Ukraine

The situation in Ukraine poses great risks for Europe.

They are more than energy problems or risks in Euro zone. Solution to this problem demands greater degree of solidarity of Europe then before, and a certain price should be paid for this solidarity.

It has been stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a discussion in the framework of the Bratislava Global Security Forum.

As Radio Svaboda informs, the head of the Polish government believes that deploying a more numerous NATO contingent of soldiers in eastern near-border countries of the EU should become a display of such solidarity. “We see Russian commandoes in eastern Ukraine, but some still speak of Russian-speaking demonstrators. Sometimes the problem of Ukraine is presented in a way as if the cause for all these events had been in Ukraine, and not Russia’s policy,” Tusk underlined. “If there will be no readiness for a greater NATO presence in the frontier countries of the European Union, this will mean that NATO solidarity is merely a declaration.”

PM of Poland has noted that the joint stance of the EU does not automatically mean a radical position.

“Answers for today’s challenges should be looked for without hypocrisy, which is the best display of true solidarity,” Tusk stressed.

In response to the observation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban who said that Ukraine is a challenge both to the EU and Russia, and establishment of democracy could not be guaranteed in this country, Donald Tusk noted that “one should not, objectively or subjectively, express messages which support the key line of Russian propaganda.” To his mind, “not a Ukrainian nationalism is a problem, but Russia’s aggression.”

Besides, Tusk noted that Europe would not feel safe if the highest level of energy solidarity not reached.

We remind that earlier Poland offered the US and the NATO to station the US troops and contingent of the Alliance on its territory in connection with the events in Ukraine after Russia’s aggression.
