Russians want to replace Visa and MasterCard by Belcard

Clients of Russian banks want to start using Belarusian payment system Belcard.

Clients of Russian banks demonstrate increased interest in Belcard, the Belarusian payment system, after Visa and MasterCard stopped serving clients of Russian banks.

The statement was made today by Aliaksandr Sotnikau, the director of ZAO Payment System Belcard, BelTA reports.

“The interest of Russians has significantly increased in the past week,” he said.

Answering the question about prospects for launching the national payment system in Russia, Sotnikau said it could take about three years.

International payment systems Visa and MasterCard stopped providing services to certain Russian banks as part of sanctions against the Kremlin.
