Lukashenka wants new hospital in the countryside

The Belarusian dictator has decided to build a new medical centre in the countryside for himself and government officials.

Aliaksandr Lukashenka offers to hand over the building of the Republican Medical Centre of the Presidential Property Management Directorate to Minsk city administration and build a new “small” centre for top officials outside Minsk, in the countryside. He explained his proposal by at attempt to save money, AFN reports.

“The city needs a hospital. Not a small one. Of course, I am very cautious and careful about the construciton of new hospitals, because it would be better to load the existing ones, but still,” Lukashenka said after hearing the report on the availability of hospitals in Minsk.

“We have the so called presidential hospital run by the Presidential Property Management Directorate. Instead of constructing new hospitals, we could give this huge building to the city administration and build a small medical centre in the suburb or in the countryside for the functions that are now performed by the presidential hospital,” the Belarusian ruler added.

“It would be cheaper for the country: We give Ladutska [Minsk's mayor] this hospital, the city doesn't spend $500mn on a new hospital and we build a small medical centre, which will be five times cheaper,” Lukashenka said.

He gave instructions to assess the options and show him the most suitable variant for consideration.
