Babruisk plant authorities mock workers for hunger strike

The authorities of the plant of tractor parts in Babruisk use Soviet methods to take revenge on workers for a hunger strike.

The administration of the Babruisk plant of tractor parts released a poster as a response to the hunger strike of the plant's primary unit of the Free Trade Union of Belarus (FTUB), Radio Svaboda reports.

The administration tries to deride the strike and the protesters using “satirical” methods in the style of Soviet magazines.

According to workers, the posters can be seen on the walls at the checkpoint and in shops. The protesters say workers do not read and discuss the posters. Henadz Labanau, who took part in the hunger strike, notes workers don't understand what the plant authorities wanted to say in such a way.

FTUB activists say the hunger strike of 12 workers lasted for three days in March.

The protesters called on the plant authorities to stop persecuting workers for their membership in the trade union, start negotiations with the trade union representatives on preparing and signing the employment agreement and cancel the discriminative clauses of the collective employment agreement.

The plant administration denied the fact of the hunger strike. Demands of the protesters were not fulfilled after the strike. One of the participants was dismissed after the expiration of the employment agreement.
