In Cyprus Joe Biden will discuss imposition of sanctions against Russia

The USA vice-president Joe Biden will pay a visit to Cyprus on Wednesday in order to discuss the EU sanctions against Russia.

This issue is very sensitive for Nicosia, since billions of euros of Russian investors are kept in the Cyprus banks. Cyprus’ Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides stated earlier that European Union’s tough sanctions against Russia may destroy the economy of his country, Radio Svaboda reports.

In the course of Biden’s visit the parties will also discuss issues of the Cyprus conflict settlement.

Biden will arrive to Cyprus as he finishes his visit to Romania. Today he will have negotiations with Romania’s president Traian Basescu and the Prime Minister Viktor Ponta on the situation in Ukraine. Speaking in Bucharest yesterday Joe Biden confirmed Washington’s adherence to its commitments to Romania. “You can rely on us”, - he said.
