Home of Babruisk blogger Aleh Zhaunou searched

The police are searching the home of blogger Aleh Zhaunou from Babruisk.

Zhaunou's wife Yauhenia confirmed the information for Radio Svaboda.

“My husband is with them in the living room. There are seven people here. He was at a police station on February 4 and something like 'everything can explode'. They want to find a video of the conversation with police officers,” Yauhenia said.

She says she read in the search warrant that the operation is carried out in connection with a criminal case. Yauhenia does not know under what article the case was opened.

Search witnesses note the policemen don't say whether they will detain Aleh Zhaunou.

Zhaunou is known for a conflict with road police officers in Babruisk in the road police office on September 4, 2013. Zhaunou and his son saw a police car standing on the pavement in violation of the traffic code. They made a video and report about the violation to the police.

Zhaunou and his son were detained with the use of physical force. Both were fined for impeding traffic. The blogger was also accused of failure to obey a police officer.

The criminal case against Zhaunou was opened on February 7, 2014. He is charged with public insult of a representative of the authorities on duty.
