The Belarusian authorities react to the election in Ukraine by silence of the ruler and advice from the MFA.
Instead of congratulations on electing the new president of the neighbouring country, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a special statement.
“It should be noted that the election campaign was conducted in an unprecedented tough and tense situation. Unfortunately, some citizens were not involved into the election process,” the statement reads.
“At the same time, Ukrainian society has demonstrated a high level of civil consciousness and determination to start moving towards national consent, stability inside the country, sustainable economic and political development,” the Belarusian foreign ministry thinks.
“We hope that the elections will become an important step forward in the efforts to restore mutual understanding, to normalize situation in the country, to build a comprehensive power hierarchy in Ukraine,” the MFA says.
“Belarus respects the choice of the Ukrainian people and is ready for further constructive cooperation with its neighbour,” the MFA's press service summarises.
