Minsk authorities ban Ukraine solidarity meeting

The meeting was scheduled on 28 May under the slogans supporting Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity.

The response from Minsk city executive committee says that “at the crossroads of Kisialova and Staravilenskaja Streets, in the Sciapanauski garden near the Taras Shevchenko monument another event is scheduled”. What event exactly, the response does not specify, BelaPAN reports.

“I was at the Shevchenko monument today at the time, when we planned to hold the meeting, - said the deputy chairman of the BPF party Ihar Lalkou. – Apart from policemen in uniform and not, there was no one. There was a whole Gazel minibus of riot policemen, several more cars with police. Nothing was happening at the very site near the monument between 18.00 and 19.30, when we planned on holding the event”.

The politician pointed out that pictures were taken of how the Sciapanauski garden looked. “Tomorrow we will discuss, whether we should appeal against Minsk city executive committee’s decision. In fact, Minsk authorities openly lied that a different even would be held, since there was, obviously, absolutely nothing”, - Lalkou emphasized.
