Holiday bonuses cut for Granite plant workers

Holiday bonuses cut for Granite plant workers

Workers of Granite plant were deprived of another preference.

Charter97.org has learnt it from trade union activist Aleh Stakhayevich.

“Granite workers received double pay for working on public holidays in late April and early May, though earlier payment for working on public holidays was four daily rates of pay,” he noted.

The trade union activist adds it is not the first time when preferences for workers have been cut.

“Extra pay for harmful labour conditions was reduced last spring and seven additional holiday days were cancelled. Workers, in particular BelAZ drivers, do not receive pay for downtime due to the employee's fault. The 12-hour shift is now 30 minutes shorter, which has influence on wages. Now they have halved pay for working on public holidays,” Aleh Stakhayevich said.

In late 2011, several hundreds of workers of building stone producer Granite in Mikashevichy quit the official trade union. The workers said they would create the independent trade union. As a result, all members of the new trade union, including its head Aleh Stakhayevich, were fired.
