Photo fact: “Potemkin houses” in Minsk

What wasn't repaired was just drawn.

Some houses in the centre of the Belarusian capital were “repaired” in a simple and cheap way. They were covered with huge banners depicting “repaired” walls so that they look new from a distance.

Photos demonstrating the “ingenuity” of the Minsk authorities were posted on Facebook by activist Dzmitry Kavalhim.

“Potemkin houses are now in Minsk. This excellent work (bushes are the most admirable) can be found in Rosa Luxemburg Street opposite the luxurious hotel, which was opened lately by Kolia's father [Lukashenka],” he writes.

Houses in Zhlobin were lately “repaired” in the same way.
