Employment contract not extended for trade union activist from Mozyr

An activist of an independent trade union of radio and electronic industry from Mozyr Pavel Nazdrya has learnt that employment contract would not be prolonged with him “because of expiration of the contract.”

The activist worked as an electrician for the housing and utilities administration under a labour contract since 2010. He had a contract for 4 years, the human rights centre Viasna informs.

“There have not been any grievances or complaints related to my work. I was valued as an expert. And moreover, as far as I know, there would be no electricians left in the housing and utilities administration any more. I think that the fact that my contract has not been extended is related to my public activities, as problems with administration started last year because of setting up a branch of the independent ,” Pavel Nozdrya said.

As the activist notes, the leadership’s prejudiced treatment started in autumn 2013. “However after articles in mass media the administration promised I would not be fired, though I had been threatened that many times previously on different pretexts,” the trade union activist added. Now he is going to look for a new job.
