YCD leader Maryna Khomich summoned by police

The leader of the organising committee to create the Young Christian Democrats association (YCD), Maryna Khomich, is summoned to the police station.

Khomic received a phone call saying she, along with other 1,500 mobile phone owners, had been in the area where an ITM was robbed, BelaPAN reports.

Khomich says this ground looks formal. “Police officers came to my relatives, where I live. It's unclear why they came to them, because my mobile phone number is registered in another name. So, it would be logical to meet with that person first,” she said.

Khomich says Zmitser Kavalhin, an activist of the United Civil Party, is also summoned to the police. “I'll go to a police station next week. I have nothing to hide. But I'd like to turn attention to the atmosphere, in which preparations for the ice hockey championship in Belarus take place. The authorities are clearing the territory of democratic activists,” the YCD leader underscored.

Several activists were preventively arrested in Belarus ahead of the Ice Hockey World Championship that opens in Minsk on May 9. At least 20 activists, including Young Front leader Zmitser Dashkevich, are being held in custody.
