Verdict in case of Belneftekhim deputy director to be delivered May 15

Uladzimir Voukau may face up to 8 years of imprisonment.

Minsk's Maskouski district court will deliver its verdict in the case of Belneftekhim deputy chairman Uladzimir Voukau on May 15, BelaPAN reports.

Voukau didn't admit his guilt of taking bribes in the final statement on May 7.

Voukau is charged with violating part 3 of article 430 of the Criminal Code (taking an especially large bribe by a high-ranking official).

Voukau was detained on October 8, 2013, after receiving a part of a bribe from a company's representative for arranging the processing of oil at the refinery. The official was arrested in his office. He received 19,000 dollars from February to October, according to investigators.

Voukau assets – about $100,000, two flats, a garage, a BMW car – were arrested during the investigation.

The prosecutor said at the trial that Voukau, being an official, had accepted material values in 2013 for solving the issues in his power, in particular those relating to imports and exports of raw hydrocarbons and oil products.

According to a prosecutor, Voukau was taking bribes in his office from February 26 to October 7, 2013, for arranging the export of bitumen in the interests of commercial organisations. He received the first bribe on February 26 from a representative of Terra company. He received eight bribes at a total sum of $22,000; the last bribe was on October 7.

Radzion Sheleh, a former manager of Terra company, who had given Voukau the money, said at the trial it was not a bribe, but a gesture to thank the official for his support “in word and deed”. According to him, it was $11,000, not 22,000 or 19,000 dollars.

Public prosecutor Anatoly Kabiak asked the court to sentence the former official to eight years in prison, the confiscation of property and deprive him of the right to hold administrative and executive posts for five years.
