Euvroopt bans St. George's ribbons without comments

59

Evroopt retail chain does not give comments why it decided not to hand out St. George's ribbons.

A representative of Evrotorg's marketing department declined to comment why the event on the occasion of the Victory Day was cancelled.

The official website of the Russian retail chain Evroopt informed yesterday that customers of the stores across the country can receive ribbons of St. George (which are considered to be a symbol of the victory) from May 7 to May 9.

This morning, the information was replaced by congratulations and a notice that the stores will be “decorated with posters on the occasion”.

Evroopt's hotline didn't work the whole day (the voicemail was full), and a representative of the marketing department told a charter97.org correspondent in the evening: “Our company does not comment on the issue. All are on business trips, the director has a meeting…”

It was reported by media yesterday that volunteers would hand out ribbons to customers of Evroopt stores. It was found out later that they were promised 25,000 rubles an hour and that advertising agency was in charge of recruiting “volunteers”, while Evroopt staff denied the company had vacancies to hand out St. George's ribbons.
