Belarus' Staniouta 2nd at UEG Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships

Leader of the Belarusian national rhythmic gymnastics team Melitina Staniouta won the all-around silver at the 2014 UEG European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Baku.

Melitina Staniouta scored a total of 72,416 points in four routines (hoop – 18,266, ball – 18,200, clubs – 17,850, ribbon – 18,100). Gold was claimed by current world champion Yana Kudryavtseva of Russia (a total of 73,499 points). Third place was occupied by Ukraine's Anna Rizatdinova (71,649). Yekaterina Galkina of Belarus finished 7th (69,015). Twenty athletes took part in the competition.

The current silver medal of the main continental tournament is Melitina Staniouta's highest achievement so far. Before, she won the team silver in 2011 and three bronzes last year (team, hoop and clubs).

The first day of the 2014 championships also included the team all-around medal event (10 clubs; 3 balls/2ribbons). The Belarusian team of Anna Dudenkova, Maria Kadobina, Maria Kotyak, Valeria Pishchelina, Arina Tsitsilina and Ksenia Cheldyshkina was 17th with a total of 27,800 points. Russian gymnasts became European champions scoring 36,566 points. Silver went to Team Italy (34,749). Bronze was clinched by Team Israel (34,383).
