Verkhovna Rada appoints Klimkin as Ukrainian foreign minister

The Verkhovna Rada has appointed Pavlo Klimkin as Ukraine's foreign minister.

A total of 335 MPs on Thursday voted for Klimkin's candidacy, which was proposed by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

Klimkin has served as Ukraine's ambassador to Germany since June 2012.

Klimkin, born in 1967, graduated from the Faculty of Aerophysics and Space Research of the Moscow Physical-Technical Institute in 1991.

In 1991-1993, he worked as a researcher at the Paton Electric Welding Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

In 1993, he began to work at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, holding the posts of as an attache, the third, second secretary of the department of military control and disarmament.

In 2004-2008, Klimkin worked as minister-counselor of the Ukrainian Embassy in the United Kingdom.

From March 2008 to April -2010, he served as director of the department for the European Union at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

From April 2010 to April 29 to 2011, he served as Ukrainian deputy foreign minister.

From April 29, 2011 to June 22, 2012, Klimkin worked as deputy foreign minister and chief of staff.

On June 22, 2012, Klimkin was appointed Ukraine's ambassador to Germany.
