Lyabedzka: UCP cannot have any cooperation with Hajdukevich’s party

The council of the United Civil Party has not approved entering the agreement with the LDP.

Yesterday the press-service of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus published a press release about an agreement on cooperation between Minsk regional branches of the LDP and UCP. It was signed by the leaders of the regional branches Pilipchuk and Vauchanin.

“Nasha Niva” asked the leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka, what this agreement means, and he answered: “There could be no agreement or cooperation between the UCP and Hajdukevich’s party.

We are poles apart. Hajdukevich’s party is a pro-regime party, and ours is an oppositional party. There is not and could not be any agreement.

There is a signature of Vauchanin, but neither the Council of the UCP nor his assistants knew about such an initiative. No one has given one’s consent to that. Signing has taken place with gross violations of our Statute. The Council is to consider this matter tomorrow probably.”

Does “Pilipchuk-Vauchanin’s Pact” mean an attempt of Liberal Democrats to draw over some UCP activists in the run-up to the election, journalists asked.

“We are probably the only party against which the attempts to divide or split it proved futile. The central organs of the UCP party include such people as Stanislau Bahdankevich, Zinaida Bandarenka, can anyone buy or draw over such people to another party? The only thing special services could do is to “play the mischief” at some regional level. I do not exclude that such attempts can happen before the election,” Anatol Lyabedzka said.
