Lukashenka's friend heads Belarusian Handball Federation

The head of the Belarusian Handball Federation, Uladzimir Kanaplou, has been re-elected at the report-and-electoral conference.

The information appeared in Pressball newspaper.

Kanaplou, who was the only candidate, was re-elected almost unanimously. The only person who abstained was Kanaplou himself.

Kanaplou is Lukashenka's childhood friend. He worked as an aide to Lukashenka when the future dictator was a member of the Supreme Council. He was elected to the parliament in 1995. Uladzimir Kanaplou headed the pro-governmental parliamentary group “Zhoda” and was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Council. He became a deputy chairman of the “house of representatives” after the 1996 referendum and the dissolution of the legitimate parliament.

In October 2000, he won the parliamentary election as a candidate in Shklou constituency No. 75. He was elected deputy chairman of the “house of representatives” at the first special session. He headed the “parliament” from 2004 to 2007.

Media on November 27, 2013, that Uladzimir Kanaplou was arrested. Pressball newspaper wrote the official had spent three days in the KGB jail. According to the media, deputy head of the Belarusian Olympic Committee Henadz Aliakseyenka also came to the attention of the law-enforcement bodies. Kanaplou was charged with failure to report a crime (part 1 of article 406 of the Criminal Code). He was fined 900 penalty units (135 million rubles) on June 17. Kanaplou pleaded guilty at the trial. He must pay the fine within a month in accordance with the court decision.
