Local police chief in Mozyr stopped for drunk-driving

The criminal case has not been opened. As a rule, in such cases drunk drivers are responsible under an article of the Administrative Code.

Users of social networks actively discuss the news that the chief of Mozyr regional police department (Mozyr Regional Department of Internal Affairs ) Yury Karasyuk was stopped for drunk-driving. However, it is reported he was not at work. It happened last week-end. As it is said by those who are witnesses of the incident, the car of the chief of Mozyr police was stopped by the regional state traffic police post “Molniya” (“Lightning”). It is written that the drunken driver’s behavior was loud, and it was decided to take him for medical examination to Homel.

Neither in Mozyr nor in Homel there are no official comments on the incident. None of state institutions confirmed or refuted the information. However it is known that the criminal case against the chief of Mozyr regional police had not been opened. As a rule, drunk drivers are punished under an article of the Administrative Code, “Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belarus” writes.

Representatives of Mozyr regional police department state that there is no chief at the office, without explaining the reasons. Apparently, Yury Krasyuk was suspended temporarily. Questions about his detention are to be answered by Homel Internal Affairs Department, however official comments are not given there as well.

Interestingly, in a recent interview to the regional newspaper the chief of Mozyr police stated that “drunken-driving accidents are noted by their gravity”:

- That is why finding drivers who are behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol, and their removal from the traffic area is one of the key tasks of traffic policemen, - the chief of the police department said.
