Former political prisoner Malchanau gets preventive supervision regime lifted

Court proceeding took place yesterday that ruled not to prolong the regime of preventive supervision over Aliaksandr Malchanau.

The former political prisoner reported about that on Facebook.

“Thus, after 13 July I will be completely free, will be able to leave the city and the country”, - Malchanau wrote.

We would remind that for the first time Aliaksandr Malchanau got detained on criminal charges for taking part in the protest manifestation against the rigged presidential election results. He was charged with participating in “mass disturbances” and insulting the state symbols in the course of the manifestation. On 2 March 2011 he got convicted by Minsk Frunze district court and sentenced to 3 years in high security prison. He served the imprisonment term in the penal colony number 15 in Mahilou, from which he was released on 14 September 2011 among other political prisoners under Lukashenka’s pardon decree.

In November 2011 he was repeatedly arrested in Barysau and taken into custody. This time the oppositionist was charged with stealing scrap metal. On 9 April 2012 he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in high security penal colony. He was released in July 2013.
