Aleh Korban has been sentenced to 10-day arrest

The leader of the Alternativa public association Aleh Korban has been sentenced to a 10-day arrest by Minsk Frunze district court.

According to human rights activists, the detention took place on 12 August at 10 a.m. near the Kamennaja Horka metro station. At Frunze district police department a protocol was composed against Korban for alleged disorderly conduct under the article 17.1 of the Code on Administrative Procedure, the Viasna human rights center reports.

According to an Alternativa activist Illa Dabratvor, who walked free today after t a 14-day arrest, Aleh Korban was supposed to meet him. “However, since he did not come to the jail building, I understood something was not right”, - said Dabratvor, who believes that the arrests of the organization’s activists, which have become frequent in the recent months, show purposeful persecution of the Alternativa for running the campaign ‘For independent Belarus’.

We would remind that Aleh Korban was sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest on 4 July after a preventive detention, which was related to the celebrations of the official independence day on 3 July in Minsk. The Alternativa activist Illa Dabratvor was detained on 29 July and sentenced to 14 days of administrative arrest. Another activist of the organizations Aleh Kerol was detained on 5 August, when he brought a parcel for Dabratvor and is serving a 10-day arrest at the moment.
