Homel resident asks Poroshenko to protect Ukrainian flag in Belarus

A resident of Homel wants to ask the president of Ukraine for help.

Kanstantsin Zhukouski wants to bring to account the offenders who desecrate Ukrainian national symbols and call those supporting the people of Ukraine fascists and nazists. “What happened to me and other people in Belarus shows that the words about supporting Ukraine we hear from Belarusian officials contrast with their deeds,” the activist said to Viasna human rights centre.

He explains his appeal with the fact that Homel's Tsentralny district court refused to open a criminal case over the attack on home of activist Kanstantsin Zhukouski, who raised a Ukrainian flag over his house and was attacked by hooligans.

On May 2, his house was attacked by unknown men after the activist had raised the flag of Ukraine to show his solidarity with the Ukrainians. One of the men was swearing and insulting the activist. He threatened bodily harm and called the Ukrainian flag a “rag”.
