Romania condemns Russia’s support of the gunmen in the east of Ukraine.
The president of Romania Traian Băsescu believes that the goal of Russia’s president Vladimir Putin is to turn Ukraine’s eastern regions into a large-scale Transnistria, block Ukraine’s ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU and its approximation with NATO.
Romanian leader Traian Băsescu stated that at a special briefing on the situation in Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.
“Romania condemns the support that the Russian Federation provides for the separatists in Ukraine’s east. Analyzing the recent events in Ukraine, I would like to emphasized that Putin’s goal is to turn eastern Ukraine into a large-scale Transnistria, as well as block Ukraine’s ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU and its approximation with NATO”, - Băsescu stated.
In the opinion of the Romanian president, Russia provides support for the separatists in two ways: by sending military experts and officers from Russia and providing the terrorists with modern military equipment.
“Romania confirms its coherent unconditional support of Ukraine, as well as the struggle of the Ukrainian people for independence and territorial integrity of the state”, - Băsescu summarized.
