Maladziechna residents discussed defense from pro-Russian extremists

A round table took place in Maladziechna on 4 August on the occasion of the day of solidarity with the civil society of Belarus.

Local human rights activists, representatives of political parties, civic unions and pro-democracy initiatives took part in the event. One of the participants, a human rights activist Ales Kaputski shared the details about the round table with the web-site of the human rights center Viasna.

The situation with human rights in the country in general and at the local level was discussed at the round table. Suggestions were made on how to more efficiently spread information about political prisoner in local printed and internet media, in particular through social networks. Also, attention was paid to the latest case of the beating of an activist of the European Belarus civic campaign by extremists on a Minsk-Maldziechna train. Way were discussed of preventing such incidents in society. In the end the round table participants decided to appeal to law enforcement agencies with a demand to terminate the existence of non-registered pro-Russian organizations of extremist nature in the city.
